Our Heritage

From a TV studio to a national movement.

What began as a vision broadcast on screen now reaches women in 182+ groups across Uganda.

The Omukyala Omukozi Vision

The initiative was conceived by Priscilla Walugyo in 2016. As a television presenter hosting a women-in-business show called Omukyala Omukozi— "The Working Woman" — she witnessed the tough times women faced trying to break through in business while still providing for their children.

Most women start businesses out of desperate situations — divorce, the death of a husband, or neglect of family responsibility. They begin with little or no skills, which cripples their success. NAWI was founded in 2017 to close that gap through the Business Skills Training Program.

We then added the girl child as a target group and launched the Gender Empowerment Program. In 2019 the Scholarship Program followed, helping vulnerable children access education. Today NAWI works with 182 women groups, 190+ schools and institutions, and has supported 87+ GBV cases across Uganda.
